CNWL NHS Health Charity funded the refurbishment of staff facilities on the second floor of St Pancras Hospital.
Prior to the project, staff had been taking breaks or eating lunch at their desk, offsite and in a pooled car, and were in need of a place to rest and recuperate. When surveyed, 71% of staff felt that their workplace did not have adequate facilities to support their health and wellbeing.
To ensure the space would fully meet staff needs, they were consulted on the décor, furnishings, layout and content of the new space. As a result, they now have a permanent comfortable physical room to rest, relax and have lunch, in addition to a new purpose-built locker room and changing facilities.
A follow-up survey, conducted six weeks after the opening, showed a 31% improvement in the number of staff who felt the workplace now had facilities that meet staff needs.
